Porsche Cayman GT4 (981, 2015-2019) review – interior and tech

The Cayman we've all been waiting for

Evo rating
Price
from £64,451
  • Looks; attitude; exquisite chassis balance; price; 'that' manual gearbox
  • Gear ratios still feel too long; they've all been sold

You’ll struggle to find a car with a better driving position than a Cayman GT4 with the optional carbonfibre-backed bucket seats.

You sit low, but not so low you feel lost within the cabin or lack visibility. The seat is upright, but not to the extent of discomfort. The steering wheel, dead-centre ahead of you, is the same delectable Alcantara-trimmed item from the 918 Spyder and can be adjusted just-so. Just a wrist-flick away is the manual gearlever.

And of course, everything is constructed to Porsche standards of build. Even the race-style pull-strap door handles release the latch with a satisfying click, and the sides of the bucket seats – which do require some clambering to negotiate, depending on your driving position – feel like they’ll withstand several years of clumsy entrances.

Equipment levels are respectable for a car of this type – there’s no decontented model without a stereo or air conditioning, for example, as there is with a Boxster Spyder. An audio system with a 7in colour screen is standard, while Porsche Communication Management is optional. It’s no high-tech powerhouse, but most things you’d need on a daily basis are available.
