Peugeot 208 review - a supermini for keen drivers? - Peugeot 208 design

Not the best-driving car in the class, but GTi models prove there's a good chassis underneath Peugeot's supermini

  • Neat ride and handling, strong turbocharged three-cylinder engine
  • Lacks body control in faster driving, steering light on feel

The 208 first saw the light of day in 2012 and received a facelift and equipment tweaks in 2015. Given the car’s popularity, its shape has probably already faded into the background on your commute, but it’s not an unattractive car even so.

Okay, so cooking models don’t quite boast the appealing stance of the GTis, nor are you offered the coupe-franche split colour scheme of the GTi by Peugeot Sport. The front grille looks a little large to our eyes, too. But it’s a curvy, well-proportioned shape and in higher trim lines succeeds in looking fairly classy too, if not quite as fashionable as a Mini or Audi A1.
