Nissan Juke review - still fun and funky, but no longer the best - Nissan Juke MPG and running costs

Divisive styling, but still an interesting supermini alternative

Evo rating
Price
from £14,590
  • Interesting, low running costs, fun Nismo RS
  • Some despise the looks, low on space

Given the relatively compact dimensions of the Juke it may be of some surprise to learn that only versions powered by the diesel engine or the 1.2-litre DIG-T petrol fall under 130g/km for zero annual road tax - at 104- and 129g/km respectively. The diesel is by far the most efficient car in the line-up with an impressive 70.6mpg combined economy figure too - and that's nearly achievable in reality with a little effort.

Even the new turbocharged 1.2 pales in comparison, at 50.4mpg, while all the other variants achieve mid-40s. Fine for low-mileage driving, but plenty of rival cars do better. Likewise, buyers tempted by the low price of the entry-level Juke won't like the fact it comes with a £130 a year tax bill because of its 138g/km emissions.

The four-wheel drive petrol model is worse still, emitting 153g/km for an annual bill of £180 - or the same as the manual version of the far more fun Nismo RS model...

The three-year/60,000-mile warranty includes European roadside assistance while Nissan Service Care is the company's name for fixed price servicing starting at £149 for petrol or £159 for diesel models. It includes roadside assist for a year, a courtesy car and software upgrades as necessary. Insurance groups are 11 to 20.
