BMW 7-series Edition 40 Jahre unveiled

To celebrate four decades of its executive saloon, BMW reveals an exclusive limited edition version of the 7-series

For the past 40 years the BMW 7-series has been at the forefront of innovation for technology and comfort, and it's among the first cars to spring to mind when a mix of luxury and dynamics are a car-buying priority.

So to celebrate four decades of the 7-series and its impact on the luxury market, BMW has released the Edition 40 Jahre. The new car will be fully unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt motor show and becomes available to order from this October.

Available in either regular or long wheelbase body forms, coming with the option of 6-, 8- or 12-cylinder engines, and offering an exclusive interior and exterior not available on any other 7-series, each one of the 200 Edition 40 Jahre will be built in BMW’s Dingolfing plant to the individual customer’s specification.

A main focal point of the Edition 40 Jahre is its choice of two body colours, created to highlight the curves and edges of the 7-series’ bodywork. Much like the 30 Jahre M3 and M5, BMW’s latest special edition is available in a silk-matt paint, Frozen Silver Metallic. In addition there is a very elegant dark blue called Petrol Mica Metallic, which is said to create a ‘unique impression of depth’.

To further differentiate the anniversary model from a regular 7-series a specifically designed signet appears on the b-pillar and door sills. As well as the unique paint options and emblems the 7-series Edition 40 Jahre comes with the M Aerodynamic package, dark chrome trim and 20-inch wheels.

The well-judged and restrained attitude of the exterior is also replicated on the inside, with the kind of fine grain leather and hand woven piping expected of a car in this category. The seats are available in either black and cream, or brown and cream leather – while the rest of the interior is trimmed to match, with wood or piano black inserts depending on the interior choice.

Whether you're being chauffeured around or driving yourself, BMW has made sure to remind you just what you've bought, with the Edition 40 Jahre signet plastered on headrests, comfort cushions and within the instrument panel.

Despite luxury playing a leading role in the Edition 40, BMW hasn’t forgotten about its persona of driving performance. There’s the option of four-wheel drive and, like the standard 7-series, you get the Driving Experience Control feature that allows you to adjust dampers to create a sportier feel – perfect if you happen to be late for a meeting and the chauffeur has to step it up a notch to get you there on time…
