Tesla Model 3 Performance receives Track Package to rival BMW M3 Competition

The range-topping Tesla Model 3 Performance can now be had with a circuit-oriented Track Pack

In order to satisfy the needs of those who desire to take their all-electric Tesla Model 3 to the track, the American manufacturer is now offering a ‘Track Package’ to help the mid-sized saloon better cope with the toils of the circuit.

Available for the price of $5500 (approx. £4200) in the US, the new option can be applied post-delivery, but is only compatible with the Model 3 Performance equipped with the Performance Upgrade, an option that unlocks a raised 162mph top speed, lowered suspension, uprated brakes, a carbonfibre lip spoiler and Track Mode. UK availability is yet to be announced.

Most notable is the addition of new, lightweight 20-inch Zero-G wheels, wrapped in sticky 245-section Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres at all four corners. Although overall range is likely to take a hit, grip and unsprung mass will both see improvements.

Though perfectly capable in most scenarios, a near-two-ton kerb weight and blistering straight-line performance mean even the uprated Performance Brakes may begin to falter under track conditions. To counter this, Tesla’s new Track Package pumps the Model 3 full of new, high-performance brake fluid and equips uprated pads, making the system more resistant to overheating.

This news comes alongside the launch of Track Mode V2, a feature that allows drivers to tweak various aspects of the driving experience on the go. New to the second iteration of the software is the ability to create up to 20 custom performance profiles, in which front-rear power split, stability control, regenerative braking, ‘Post-Drive Cooling’ and ‘Compressor Overclock’ can all be adjusted.

The Model 3 Track Package’s $5500 fee includes installation and shipping to your closest dealership. First deliveries are set to begin in April 2020, and UK availability is yet to be announced.
