Subaru BRZ prices and specs revealed

Subaru confirms prices and specs for its BRZ rear-drive coupe, and it's good news...

Subaru’s new rear-wheel drive coupe, the BRZ, will cost from £24,995 when it goes on sale this summer – exactly the same as its sister car, the Toyota GT 86. The base car, the SE, gets a limited slip differential, 17in alloy wheels and a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. An automatic transmission is available for an extra £1500. Inside, standard equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, a push button engine start and iPod connectivity. An aftermarket, dealer-fit satnav is a £1000 option. The SE Lux carries a £1500 premium over the standard car and features heated leather seats. Every BRZ purchased will come with Subaru’s ‘ETCo’ (Everything Taken Care of) service, which covers an impressive amount of stuff, ranging from scratch, dent and alloy wheel repairs to winter tyre storage and a monthly wash. Early demand for the BRZ is said to be strong, and numbers will be more limited than its Toyota twin, sparking a waiting list for 2012 cars. Subaru also looks set to release a basic ‘S-spec’ BRZ model next year, which will offer a saving over the standard car. Prices have yet to be announced, but are unlikely to drop to the levels of the ‘RA’ version currently on sale in Japan, which costs the equivalent of just £16,750.
