Porsche Cayman S Black Edition news and pictures

Porsche unveils the Black Edition of its Cayman S sports car, a limited edition with more power and kit

Porsche has unveiled its Cayman S Black Edition. The sports coupe gets similar treatment to its drop-top Boxster Black sibling, with an extra 10bhp taking its total output to 326bhp and a distinctive new look inside and out.

The higher maximum power figure comes from the existing 3.4-litre flat-six engine from the Cayman S, but is delivered 200rpm further up the rev range (at 7400rpm) while the torque figure remains the same at 273lb ft (at 4750rpm).

Ten horsepower may sound like a modest rise, but it yields a drop in 0-62mph time, which is as low as 4.8sec if you specify Porsche’s PDK twin-clutch gearbox and Launch Control. With a more satisfying six-speed manual transmission you’ll reach the accelerative benchmark in 5.1sec, though you won’t stop going until 173mph. PDK users will make do with a lower (just!) 172mph top speed.

Of course, most buyers will be won over by the Black Edition’s more obvious changes. There’s a set of new 19in alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights (with dynamic cornering lights) and a plethora of black trim inside and out. Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity and sat-nav are all standard too.

The Porsche Cayman S Black Edition goes on sale in the UK in September, starting from £50,240. That represents a rise of just over £2500 compared to a standard S, while the more hardcore (though less well equipped) Cayman R will set you back £51,728. Just 500 Cayman S Black Editions will be sold worldwide.
