Theon Design reveals latest 964 Porsche 911 restomod

The Oxfordshire Porsche 911 specialist has revealed its latest bespoke commission, a carbon-bodied 964 destined for Italy

Theon Design is riding the wave of Porsche 911 restomod popularity with its restored 964s, and its latest commission - dubbed ITA001 - has been unveiled as a discrete but heavily reworked version of the icon.

Destined for Italy, this Theon Design 911 is built from a 964 Carrera 4 chassis which has been completely stripped back, strengthened and restored. The shell is cloaked in bespoke carbon body panels, which have been sympathetically reformed to evoke classic long-nose 911s - albeit with wider haunches that echo the later G-series cars.

Schwartz black - an official Porsche colour - has been chosen for ITA001, which contrasts against satin carbonfibre trim elements and a grey Porsche script along the sills. A set of 18-inch Fuchs wheels fill out those muscular new arches.

The modifications run deeper than surface-level. A naturally-aspirated 4-litre flat six is at the heart of ITA001, which generates 400bhp and 315lb ft thanks to motorsport-derived upgrades: Jenvey independent throttle bodies, a new intake plenum and a redesigned ceramic coated exhaust each contribute to the final output, while a dual mass flywheel has been selected to maintain civility for road use.

ITA001’s six-speed manual gearbox has been borrowed from an original 993 RS, in place of the five-speed G50 unit typically used for 911 restomods. There’s a limited-slip differential built into the transaxle, and the car’s braking system is also sourced from the 993 RS, with five stage electronically adjustable dampers supplied by TracTive.

Theon’s latest creation weighs in at a scant 1152kg (wet) - that’s substantially less than a  standard 964 Carrera 2, despite ITA001’s plusher cabin and modern luxuries. The interior is finished in tobacco leather and satin carbon trim, with Recaro front seats and bespoke touring buckets at the rear, resembling those of the 928. The customer has also specified a six-speaker Focal sound system which offers a Bluetooth connection, with a dash-integrated wireless charging pad completing the tech enhancements.

As ever, such extensive re-engineering doesn’t come cheap. Prices for Theon commissions start at £380,000 (excluding the donor car and taxes), and this figure can swell significantly depending on specific customer requests. Each build takes 18 months to complete.
