Maserati unveils sportier, more powerful version of its GranCabrio convertible supercar

On the Maserati stand at the 2011 Geneva motor show next month will be a new, harder-edged version of the GranCabrio.  Called simply the GranCabrio Sport, the model’s all-alloy 4.7-litre V8 engine has undergone what Maserati calls a ‘Friction Reduction Programme’, boosting power from 434bhp to 444bhp while improving fuel economy by six per cent.  The six-speed ZF automatic gearbox has been recalibrated for quicker shift times and the GranCabrio’s Skyhook active suspension and brakes have also been tweaked and upgraded. There have also been a few subtle styling alterations, including a new black grille and inner headlamp colour together with front corner splitters and redesigned side skirts.  A new body colour is also available - Rosso Trionfale, inspired by the racing red of Fangio’s iconic Maserati 250F grand prix car. The Sport hits all of Maserati’s existing markets this summer, and will sit alongside the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte Sport GT S in Maserati’s family of enhanced performance models. The Maserati GranCabrio S is fully revealed at the 2011 Geneva motor show. The rest of the stars and highlights are here.
