BMW M4 Competition 50 Jahre editions celebrate 50 years of M

The celebrations continue with BMW M launching market-specific 50 Jahre editions of its M3 and M4

BMW M has revealed new special editions of its M3 and M4 as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations that will join a rapidly expanding range that will see M4 CSL, M3 Touring, M3 CS, M2 and XM arrive before the year’s end. All of BMW’s M3 and M4 special editions will come under the same 50 Jahre moniker, but BMW has diversified the offerings depending on its market, spreading across both ranges with manual and automatic options.

For the UK, we’ll only be given access to the M4 Competition coupe fitted with the eight-speed automatic as per the usual range. The 50 Jahre model will be available in a selection of iconic BMW colours from its Individual program, including the Imola Red shown in these images, as well as Carbon Black, Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey and San Marino Blue.

These colour options are then able to be contrasted with one of two bespoke wheel colour choices: Orbit Grey and Gold Bronze Matte, applied to the M Forged wheel design with staggered 19- and 20-inch sizing as per the standard M4 Competition. Inside, BMW has fitted the aggressive Carbon-backed bucket seats with a bespoke black leather finish highlighted with BMW M’s blue, violet and red stripes and 50 Jahre logo embroidery.

Other markets will receive different options, with European markets able to specify the non-Competition M4 fitted with a manual transmission, but specifications and bespoke elements remain the same. Chinese market M4 50 Jahre models feature a slightly different combination of elements that also tie into local Year of the Tiger celebrations. There are two optional specifications: Fire Orange contrasted with Orbit Grey wheels, or Stratus Grey with the Gold Bronze wheel option.

USA and Canadian markets are given the choice of a special M3 instead, with its colour options inspired by each generation of preceding generation. There’s also a range of carbonfibre add-ons fitted from the M Performance Parts catalogue, including a new front splitter, rear spoiler and tailpipe trims.

UK-specific availability and pricing has yet to be confirmed, but we suspect they’ll sit above the current £79,475 starting price of the base M4 Competition. As it is, it’s not hard to specify an M4 Competition to over £100,000, but without carbon ceramic brakes as part of the special edition, we suspect it won’t quite break the six-figure mark.
