M Performance parts revealed for new BMW X5

The BMW X5 is now available with new M Performance parts, for on and off the road

As with many of its new models, BMW has revealed a set of M Performance parts for the new X5 SUV. Unlike other models though, this is the first time that M Performance has offered both on- and off-road components, drawing on the X5’s moderate level of green-laning ability.

A new set of bespoke 20-inch off-road wheels (such is the sheer size of SUVs today) are wrapped in an all-terrain tyre and finished in matt black – a first for M Performance.

But we’re guessing that the sort of person that fits M Performance wheels to their X5 will be more likely to go for the road-biased 22-inch options, now flow formed, reducing weight by 1kg per wheel compared to BMW’s other 22-inch wheel options. These are finished in the more usual gloss black finish, and wrapped in low-profile summer tyres. Behind these wheels are uprated brakes with red four-piston calipers up front, and more resilient brake discs all round.

The front and rear bumpers are also available with new carbonfibre winglets close to the wheelarches, while new bumper inserts front and rear complement the deeper side skirts and new sticker pack.

Inside, the same combination of carbonfibre trim and Alcantara on the seats and steering wheel reinforce the ‘sporty’ vibe. But a vibe is just what this is, as there are no mechanical changes (aside from those brakes), meaning that if you’re after a more than 2.1-ton hot-rod SUV, you’ll have to wait till the next X5 M arrives.
